APHRRLC has activities related to public health emergency related activities and staff structurally assigned for this purpose. It usually focuses on causative organism identification and jointly participating on epidemic management with regional health bureau, so, it is acting as technical wing of Oromia regional health bureau PHEM unit.

Our laboratory is the owner of one of Avery few insectary in the country. The availability of the facility used for long time for researches conducted in the area of malaria program at national and international level. World health organization (WHO) also used this insectary as a malaria training center in previous years. Currently there are about 4 researches are on progress by different collaborators and is a great opportunity for similar researches in the future.

Operations research is increasingly recognized as essential to strengthen health programs. The key elements of operational research are that the research questions are generated by identifying the constraints and challenges encountered during the implementation of programmed activities and the answers provided to these questions should have direct, practical relevance to solving problems and improving health-care delivery.one of the role of our laboratory is to conduct operational research by its staff. The other opportunity is to conduct a research collaboratively with other stake holders. We also assist students (MSC & PhD) conducting their thesis by providing laboratory facilities and technical support.
